About

Thank you for visiting this blog, and welcome to the world of BI development.  Microsoft's rallying cry on the subject is: "BI for everyone"!

The Data Warehousing, Data Mining and Business Intelligence (DW/DM/BI) field is a very powerful one, equally exciting for software developers, business analysts, and management.  Implementations can be done successfully for businesses of any size, whether small or large, and often result in amazing gains in terms of quality and speed of reporting, as well as uncovering a wealth of actionable information.

Data warehousing has been around since the 1980s, and is rapidly growing now due to the explosion of data stored by businesses.  Tools have evolved rapidly too, and this has created a wealth of opportunities for forward-looking developers - at the same time making it imperative for them to learn those tools.

This blog aims to have informational and educational articles relating to various aspects of implementing a successful data warehousing system including OLAP cubes, using the Microsoft tools for the purpose: SQL Server 2008, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS.  Each article will cover just one topic or one subject area.  Topics will include creating and loading the data warehouse, building cubes, doing various types of analyses including predictions using the Microsoft tools, as well as tips and helpful hints on using the development environments such as the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS).

I appreciate your visit, and welcome your comments and feedback!
